Twitter will provide information about what deactivation means and how long it takes for your account to be permanently deleted (usually 30 days). Make sure to read this carefully.

Click on "Deactivate"
Your account will be deactivated immediately, but it will remain in a deactivated state for 30 days in case you change your mind. after 30 days, twitter will permanently delete your account and all your data.
